“Walking works. It makes people happy, keeps everyone healthy and can even save your life.” That’s the conclusion of an extensive new review, produced by the Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Support. Read the report here.
Walking is one of the simplest forms of exercise and this recent report has highlighted that walking is the way to get the nation active. It is free, ideal for people of all ages and fitness levels and can bring about a wide range of health benefits. Regular walking has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, asthma, strokes and some cancers.
At Stanwick Lakes we are keen to promote walking and at the end of September we held ‘Walking Week’ which offered a whole range of walks to encourage people to get out and get active. One of the activities during the week was a Health Walk which we have been running weekly on Tuesday mornings for over two years. We have found it to be so popular and beneficial to our customers that from Thursday 7th November we will be leading an additional Health Walk every Thursday morning at 10am.
Not only does walking on one of our health walks get you outside in the fresh air in the beautiful surroundings of Stanwick Lakes, it also provides the perfect opportunity to make some new friends and the chance to enjoy a drink in the cafe afterwards. There is no need to book, just turn up in comfortable shoes dressed according to the weather – Health Walks go ahead come rain or shine!
