Beginners Stained Glass Course – 2 day
This two day introduction to the traditional method of stained glass construction will give you an insight into this ancient craft that dates back hundreds of years. There will be plenty of hands-on experience and you will be able to make either a traditional panel or put your own contemporary twist on this ancient craft. You will be fully guided through the process and given lots of tips, tricks and insight and appreciation of stained glass window making.
By the end of the course you’ll make a stained glass panel to take home, which you can put in your garden, or display indoors! This class is suitable for complete beginners.
You will be introduced to all the key techniques and tools used in the traditional method of constructing stained glass using lead came.
The course will start with an introduction to the art of stained glass, the design and how we ‘paint with light’ and the equipment and tools used to do this. We will quickly move on to the practical aspect by demonstrating how we score and break glass. This will be followed by practise cutting glass to a design until you’re ready to start cutting the coloured glass for your main project.
You can either use one of the designs provided or bring along a design of your own (only recommended if you have prior experience).
There will be a full demonstration the process of constructing a panel using the leading method at each stage and we will discuss the tools and techniques being used.
Work will be focussed on building and finishing your stained-glass panel by leading, soldering and cementing your design piece which you’ll finish in time to take home.
