Sing at Stanwick (SAS Choir)

Do you love to sing ? Come and join Lisa and friends on Wednesday lunchtimes at 12.15pm. We meet up in the Visitor Centre and on nice days we sing outside in the outdoor theatre – our backdrop being a stunning view of the lakes. If the weather is inclement, we have an indoor space to use, so we are able to meet up and enjoy singing all year round.

What better way to get over the midweek hump day than come and sing!

Lisa Matthewman has been running choirs for adults and children for 15 years. She is the founder and choir director for Big About Singing, Corby Community Choir, which is now in its 11th year.

SAS sessions are inclusive and supportive, and there are no auditions or musical requirements needed to join. Communal singing has been proven to be beneficial to both physical and mental health and well-being.

SAS provides an opportunity for pursuing a new interest and to join a new friendship group.

Why we sing……….

  • singing is inclusive
  • Singing boosts self-confidence
  • Singing is uplifting and joyful
  • Singing is a workout
  • Singing improves your posture
  • Singing improves your breathing
  • Singing is empowering
  • Singing helps with sleep
  • Singing is a natural anti-depressant

The list is endless…..

A typical SAS session will start with a physical (suitable for all) and vocal warm up which prepares us to sing. We then have a mix of rounds and harmony songs which we spend a term learning, mainly taught by ear. We finish off a session with a good old sing song along to some more popular well-known songs. Over the year we sing a variety of genres from folk to rock, gospel to chants, and old time to up-to-date pop.

We aim to stretch the members teaching new vocal skills and building on their vocal talent. This is done in a fun, relaxed way.

But don’t just take our word for it, here is what some members have said….

Marie Yates I look forward to SAS every week. Lisa is so talented and encouraging, she makes singing a real joy. I’ve made lots of new friends, have lots of fun and feel I’ve achieved something good.

Tracy Stoker Sing at Stanwick is a highlight of my week. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Lisa is so full of energy and fun it’s a shame it’s only once a week – ‘I want more’.

Carol Dean Suffering from anxiety issues, I was very nervous about going along to this group as I wasn’t sure if I was going to be out of my depth. How wrong I was! What a lovely group, so welcoming, many different levels of talent. Even though I go wrong I don’t feel worried about it, we all have a good laugh as well as learning new songs. I’m not the best singer but I’ve got more confidence now to enjoy the group fully.

Josephine Horne I really look forward to my Wednesday sing-a-long and laughter session. My hubby will not make an appointment on a Wednesday – he tells people it’s the wife’s day to go singing, and it has made a world of difference to how she feels, so it will have to be another day. He sees how happy I am when I get home.
