For over two years Stanwick Lakes has worked with Lisa from Music and Movement to run a popular preschool group on a Wednesday morning. The group starts with a short craft activity, led by volunteers, inspired by the natural world and uses colours and textures to stimulate sensory development.
Lisa then joins the group for the Music and Movement session which encourages children to take their first steps into the world of music. During Lisa’s sessions she uses colourful props and exciting instruments which help the children to have a magical time learning action songs, joining in with rhymes, moving to the music and playing instruments.
The sessions have the children keeping a beat, learning simple rhythms, singing, learning about dynamics, pitch, tempo and dancing. All of these fun, engaging activities help with language development, listening, concentration, coordination, working together and sharing.
Laura, one of our regular attendees said, “I like that no two weeks are the same, we are always doing something different. It has made my daughter more confident in social settings and has bonded us together because of all the fun we have!”
Due to the popularity of the 10.30am group, we are now running a second Rainbow Cafe session on Wednesday from 11.30am – 12.15pm.
Lisa, who leads the group, said, “Not only do the children really enjoy themselves, the positivity and music has also been known to help parents and carers.” Over the years guardians have informed Lisa about how the sessions lift their spirits too.
